Progress Over Perfection

It's often said among artists, crafters, and makers that the hardest part of creating is just starting. That first scratch of the pencil. The first stroke of the brush. The first cut into the fabric. A blank slate is just SO darn intimidating- whether it is a piece of paper or a canvas or... a blog. But imagine for a second if we didn't use those materials simply because of the fear I just mentioned. It would be such a loss! More often than not, progress is MUCH better than perfection.

Cutting my felt yardage into more manageable sheets is how I prep my felt before it becomes flowers, succulents, and greenery.

So here I am with a simple "hello!" My name is Blake. I'm a creative multi-passionate entrepreneur. I won't be too repetitive because I do have an "about" page elsewhere on my site. But here's the gist. I'm a 23 year old artist/maker/creative person who likes to make thangs. And THIS is my shiny new blog!

This blog will not only be where I share relevant thoughts for discussion, but it will also serve as the notebook for my DIY projects. As I create new videos for my YouTube channel, I'll be sure to post step-by-step instructions and link to the supplies/materials/tools I used for that project.

Speaking of my YouTube channel- it will also be a large part of my site. I have been filming all of my projects and there are some thoughts that I just can't squeeze into a video. Likewise, there are some things that I can't express with words alone. So my YouTube channel and this blog will be like two sides of a coin. Yin and yang. Macaroni and cheese. Peanut butter and maple syrup. Oh. You've never heard of that last one? Go try it. You'll thank me later. I usually do honey, but give ole' maple a try sometime!

Petal by petal is how my felt magnolias are created. Therapy at its finest!

I uploaded my first YouTube video on October 5, 2015. I'm proud to say that at the time I'm writing this, that video has almost 150 thousand views. I know, right? Woah. I have made 7 videos since then and even though none of them have had the same response as that first one, it doesn't change the fact that I love sharing my creative progress with whoever is willing to watch.

With all that being said, I am BEYOND happy to finally make that first mark. This is no longer a blank canvas and that's just the way I like it.

Will you just look at the DRAMA in that one shot?! I love a good strong light source.

P.S. Now that I've introduced myself, do you mind doing the same?! Let me know who YOU are!

Comment telling me something about you! Where are you from? What do you do?
